As we grow as women, changes happen in our lives, whether good or bad, and we have to go with the flow. Becoming a mother is one of the most positive changes in a woman’s life! We live for our children, work for them, and love our babies unconditionally. Don’t get me wrong; all of this can become tiresome, or we might feel alone in the journey of motherhood. Sometimes we need someone who can relate to this weight we carry on our shoulders. Good thing there’s an app for that!

I used to be a shy, introverted person before I had a child, so meeting friends in general was scary. I figured there were probably other mothers like me or new to the area who don’t know where to start. So, after a month of using these apps, I’ve determined which apps mothers in that situation could benefit from. Here are the apps that I found. I hope this helps you!

Social apps for mamas:

Social.Mom

On the app Social.Mom, you can tell it’s still in the development phase. There are tons of bugs , and the formatting is terrible; it’s plain, and you don’t really get to swipe or customize your friend-finding journey. Social.Mom will generate random people who are on the app, but you can’t specify how far you want to travel in distance to find your friends, and you can’t use a search bar, even though you have the option. So far, this has been my least favorite app to use because the filters aren’t the greatest and finding other moms near me was a hassle.

Ema

Ema is formally known as “social Mama.” You can tell the creator of the app is going for a cool, techy vibe; it’s very futuristic. An artificial intelligence (AI) bot named Ema is assisting and directing you on your path to making friends. I’ve noticed that this app is kind of wonky, and others have agreed with me on this detail as well. The AI is made to find people who are similar to you; Emma will chat with you while you answer questions. Once Emma figures you out, she will place you in a group of like-minded women around the world to talk to, so if you’re looking for local friends, meetups, or play dates, Emma isn’t the app for that. And there are some technical difficulties within the app. So far, I’ve noticed this with the Ema app: it’s hard for you to upload your profile picture; it won’t let you find people in your area; it’s just designed for you to find people globally. I love the concept of this app, and I’ve heard that they are trying to make an Ema 2.0. Hopefully, they will consider adding a local tab as well as fixing the minor bugs.

Preglife Connect

I felt that Preglife Connect has a great layout, but they have spammers on this app. This was an annoyance when I thought I was starting a journey of friendship, but then the person on the account would try to sell me a product instead. Just beware of that.

Peanut

I had the most fun with the Peanut app. There are a variety of ways you can meet new people on Peanut. Plus, it ran more smoothly than any of the other apps. One of the features I enjoyed very much were the pods. In the pods, you can interact with so many different types of women.  They have different types of conversation topics to choose from. What I love about the group chats is that there is no judgment in these virtual chats. I also had a great turnout on the local side of the app and was able to actually meet the people in my city and schedule play dates with them. Like most apps, you have to pay for certain features.  On Peanut, you have to pay to see who waves at you or if you want to boost your profile.

Momly

When I first opened the Momly app, it was unlike any other. It was basically a social media platform to post about your kids and other motherly achievements. Others saw it as an opportunity to post “looking for friends” in their city or state. None of them got any feedback, which I noticed due to the apps’ functionalities: there is an “Explore” tab. I just didn’t have any luck because no one in my area uses Momly. The only way you can find people is by searching for their name. So it’s hard to find new people in your area. Although there are people promoting their businesses, it is not too spammy. They have other features, like podcasts and group chats. I didn’t find it personable due to having so many options but not being customizable at the same time.  Based on their social media and main users, the app seems to be more global, with more users from the U.K. and other places. So far, this app hasn’t made much of a mark in the United States. Like I said, it’s basically a social platform for mothers all over the world. That doesn’t mean you can’t try this app and possibly find someone in your area.

Which app worked for me?

My favorite app out of all these would have to be Peanut. It’s very user-friendly. There are no glitches on the app whatsoever, and plus, I actually met the most people on that app. Peanut has a social aspect, whether it’s global or just talking to other mamas in your neighborhood. It’s also a great app to meet people in person and find that play date or that mom who is similar to you, and just remember: no one has everything in common. You can use this to your advantage and try new things. Not only will you meet amazing women like you, but you’ll also find and create your friend circle. Who knows, it may last a lifetime.

Happy friend finding!
